Disruption of lateral hypothalamic calorie detection by a free choice high fat diet

چکیده
During the last few decades, consumption of low-calorie sweeteners, as a substitute for caloric has sharply increased. Although research shows that versus sweeteners can have differential effects on brain, it is unknown which neuronal populations are responsible detecting difference between two types sweeteners. Using in vivo two-photon calcium imaging, we investigated how drinking sucrose or sucralose (a sweetener) affects activity glutamatergic neurons lateral hypothalamus. Furthermore, explored consequences consuming free-choice high fat diet calorie detection abilities these neurons. We found indeed discriminate from water and sucralose, shifts response sucrose-specific to sucralose-specific, thereby disrupting detection. These results highlight disruptive saturated

Disruption of Daily Rhythms by High-Fat Diet Is Reversible
In mammals a network of circadian clocks coordinates behavior and physiology with 24-h environmental cycles. Consumption of high-fat diet disrupts this temporal coordination by advancing the phase of the liver molecular clock and altering daily rhythms of eating behavior and locomotor activity. In this study we sought to determine whether these effects of high-fat diet on circadian rhythms were...
متن کاملHigh-Fat Diet Induces Apoptosis of Hypothalamic Neurons
Consumption of dietary fats is amongst the most important environmental factors leading to obesity. In rodents, the consumption of fat-rich diets blunts leptin and insulin anorexigenic signaling in the hypothalamus by a mechanism dependent on the in situ activation of inflammation. Since inflammatory signal transduction can lead to the activation of apoptotic signaling pathways, we evaluated th...
متن کاملHigh-fat-diet exposure induces IgG accumulation in hypothalamic microglia
The mediobasal hypothalamic arcuate nucleus (ARC), with its relatively 'leaky' blood-brain barrier that allows more circulating molecules to enter the brain, has emerged as a key sensor of blood-borne signals. In both the ARC and white adipose tissue (WAT), consumption of a high-fat diet (HFD) rapidly induces infiltration of microglia (ARC) or macrophages (WAT). Animals with HFD-induced obesity...
متن کاملExercise protects against high-fat diet-induced hypothalamic inflammation
Hypothalamic inflammation is a potentially important process in the pathogenesis of high-fat diet-induced metabolic disorders that has recently received significant attention. Microglia are macrophage-like cells of the central nervous system which are activated by pro-inflammatory signals causing local production of specific interleukins and cytokines, and these in turn may further promote syst...
